The 45th anniversary of the establishment of the National Boundary Commission

On the morning of October 16th, 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) organized the workshop to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of the National Boundary Commission (October 6th, 1975 - October 6th, 2020). Mr. Pham Binh Minh, Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MOFA, leaders and former leaders of MOFA and the National Boundary Commission, leaders of ministries, sectors and localities attended the workshop.
At the workshop, Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Deputy Miniter of MOFA, Chairman of the National Boundary Commission reported on the 45-year process of establishment and development of the National Boundary Commission as well as its contributions to the national construction and defense. Notably, it presided over the negotiation and formed over 5,000km of the land border line with China, Laos and Cambodia with a system of international legal documents; resolved the overlapping waters between Vietnam and the neighboring countries; proclaimed Vietnam's sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly archipelagoes, sovereignty and jurisdictional rights in the East Sea in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea adopted in 1982.
With the achievements of historic significance, the National Boundary Commission was honored with noble awards such as the Labor Hero title, the first class Independence Order, Ho Chi Minh Order and diplomas of merit by the Party and the State.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh praised the National Boundary Commission for its efforts and contributions to protection of the territorial sovereignty, national boundaries in particular and to the foreign affairs in general. He also shared the difficulties that the staff and officials of the National Boundary Commission had overcome to accomplish their duties. He emphasized that the complicated situation in the region and the world resulted in many great challenges for protection of territorial sovereignty and national boundaries. Therefore, the National Boundary Commission continues to promote the tradition and achievements obtained, strictly follows the direction and leadership of the Party and the State; needs to closely cooperate with other ministries, sectors and localities to improve efficiency, modernize boundary management and protection, promote development at the boundary areas; pays attention to improving the efficiency of the organization, training officials to meet the requirements for the border and territory protection in the new situation, he expressed.
At the event, Mr. Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MOFA presented commemorative medals to the individuals who had made contributions to protection of the national boundary, including some individuals of Binh Dinh province.
