Inauguration Ceremony of the project “Supply power from the national grid to Nhon Chau island, Quy Nhon city”.

On the morning of October 10th, 2020 at the conference hall of Quy Nhon city Party Committee, Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) in coordination with the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh province hosted the Inauguration Ceremony of the project “Supply power from the national grid to Nhon Chau island, Quy Nhon city” (hereinafter referred to as “Project”).

The Ceremony received the attendance of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong, H.E. Mr. Giorgio Aliberti, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Member of the Party Central Committee of the Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; Mr. Le Kim Toan, Standing Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the province’s delegation of National Assembly deputies; Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People’s Committee, former leaders of the province; leaders of the Departments, agencies of the province; leaders of Quy Nhon city and people of Nhon Chau island and the permanent Deputy Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly deputies of Phu Yen province.

As reported at the Ceremony, just after four months of construction (from April to August, 2020), the project was completed and put into operation, supplying electricity to more than 600 households with about 3,000 people and the organizations and units on Nhon Chau island. The project has a total investment capital of about VND351.5 billion (VND 280 billion granted by the EU and the other is the counterpart fund of EVNCPC). EVNCPC was assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) as the project investor. Phu Yen Power Company and Binh Dinh Power Company and other relevant units participated in construction of the project.

Speaking at the Ceremony, H.E.Mr. Giorgio Aliberti, Ambassador of the EU to Vietnam shared: “Energy is one of the sectors of close cooperation between the EU and Vietnam, especially in the sectors of energy access, effective use of energy and renewable energy. The EU provided a grant of Euro 250 million for more sustainable energy development in Vietnam. The Programme has provided support for the Government of Vietnam in implementing the goal of electrification in the rural, mountainous and island areas. The submarine power cable that supplies the electricity from the national grid to Nhon Chau island is a tangible result and a success story of the EU, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the local governments in this programme”

Emphasizing the importance of the project, Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee affirmed that the fact that Project was put into operation before the schedule showed the great determination of the leaders of Binh Dinh province and EVN. That had great significance for the life of the people in Nhon Chau island commune. The project together with other infrastructures constructed on the island would be a prerequisite for Nhon Chau to develop all sectors, making substantial contributions to the sea, island economic development strategy of Binh Dinh province in particular and the country in general.

Before pressing the button to open the project, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh province and the leader of EVN presented the Diplomas of Merit to the collectives and individuals that had recorded achievements in the project. EVNCPC also gave gifts to the poor pupils of Nhon Chau island commune who overcame difficulties.
