PFS reported by PNE Group (Germany)

On the afternoon of December 15th, Mr. Nguyen Phi Long – Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee had a meeting with the PNE Group representatives on the pre-feasibility study (PFS) of Binh Dinh offshore wind farm project. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Institute of Energy under Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam and the relevant departments, agencies of the province, Phu Cat and Phu My districts. It was also connected with the leaders of the PNE Group in Germany via video.

As a consultant, Mr. Nguyen The Thang – Head of Power System Department of the Institute of Energy under MOIT reported the PFS of the project. The project is conducted offshore in Phu My and Phu Cat districts on an area of 96,470 ha with 154 – 166 wind turbines, each of which has the 12 – 13MW capacity, and the total capacity is about 2,000 MW. The project is divided into 3 phases of investment, including: the experimental phase’s scale of 700 MW (in 2025) with the investment of USD 1.6 billion, the phase 1’s scale of 700 MW (in 2026), the phase 2’s scale of 600 MW (in 2027) with the total investment capital of about USD 4.87 billion. According to the report, this project will help increase the power supply for the province and the national system, ensuring the power supply security.

On behalf of the Group, Mr. Tran Minh - Offshore Wind Power Manager proposed that the Provincial People’s Committee should submit the project proposal to the MOIT for consideration and supplementation of the project into the National Power Development Plan VIII (Power Plan 8).

Closing the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Phi Long – Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee highly valued the determination of the PNE Group and affirmed that Binh Dinh would fully support the investors in preparation for project implementation and also assigned the Department of Industry and Trade in cooperation with the related agencies to recommend the Provincial People’s Committee submit the project proposal to the MOIT for consideration and addition of the project into the Power Plan 8 at the end of December, 2020.
