Workshop on extension of the “Assisting the people with physical disabilities” project in Quy Nhon City

On the morning of 18th June 2020, Department of Health in coordination with the International Center (USA) held the workshop on extension of the “Assisting the people with physical disabilities” project in Quy Nhon City. The attendants were representatives from departments, agencies: Foreign Affairs; Labour - War Invalids and Social Affairs; Provincial Public Security, Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital; Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital; Binh Dinh Medical College; Medical Center of Quy Nhon City; Divisions under People’s Committee of Quy Nhon City and the project’s partners.

At the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hien - Project Director, representative of IC gave a brief presentation on the project “Assisting the people with physical disabilities”. Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee issued the Decision No.2768/QD-UBND dated 8^th August 2019 on the approval of extending project areas and implementation time and supplementing the costs of the project financed by U.S. Agency for International Development (called USAID) through International Center (IC). The project duration is from December 2017 to September 2022, in Tuy Phuoc, Hoai Nhon, Tay Son, Phu Cat, An Nhon districts and Quy Nhon City. The total budget of the project is VND 26 billion. The Health Department is the project owner, Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital is the technical partner of the project. The project comprises 3 main components: Assessing the demand, supplying and monitoring the usage of aid devices for the people with physical disabilities; Training the rehabilitation staff, care takers and the disabled; Assisting in the policy implementation, mass communication for raising the community awareness.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hien highly valued the guidance as well as the coordination of the relevant agencies of Binh Dinh province during the project implementation and hoped that the project extension in the coming time would get high results.

At the end of the workshop, the project partners expressed their thanks to IC for its assistance and committed themselves to cooperating closely with IC and the sponsor so that the project could bring practical benefits to the people with disabilities in the province.
