Seminar on "Promoting agricultural and seafood exports to China"

On the morning of November 11th, 2021, the Seminar on "Promoting the agricultural and seafood exports to China" was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the face-to-face format at the Government Guest House, No.02 Le Thach Street, Ha Noi, with digital participation through video conferencing by the localities, enterprises and Vietnam’s representative missions in China. At Binh Dinh Department of Foreign Affairs, it was chaired by Mr.Vo Dinh Kha, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and attended by the leaders of the relevant departments, agencies and businesses.

The seminar was chaired by Mr. Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs together with the leader of the Department of General Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and participated by approximately 200 delegates from the ministries, central agencies, 36 provinces and cities, businesses and Vietnam’s representative missions in China. At the event, a number of solutions were discussed to promote the agricultural and seafood exports to China in the context of the deepened relation between the two countries, the recovery of China's economy and China’s increasing demand for import of high quality agricultural products to help production of the domestic agricultural and seafood exports recover and overcome the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Seminar took place in two sessions:

- Session 1: China's market potential and some new regulations on the imported agricultural and seafood products. The delegates from Vietnam’s representative missions in China: Mr. Pham Sao Mai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to China; the Consuls General of Vietnam in Kunming, Nanning; Vietnam’s Trade Counselor in China and Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam, Deputy Director of SPS Vietnam Office had discussions about: (i) the market potential; (ii) China's orientation towards import of agricultural and aquatic products; (iii) two new Orders 248 and 249 issued by the General Administration of Customs of China in April 2021, to be effective from January 01st, 2022.

- Session 2: Exporting agricultural and aquatic products to China from the localities, enterprises and ministries and central agencies. The leaders of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Dong Thap provinces and some typical enterprises discussed: (i) the existing situation of exporting agricultural and aquatic products to China; (ii) recommendations and proposals by the localities and enterprises; (iii) the orientation and support solutions of the ministries and central agencies.

Attending the seminar, the localities and businesses have obtained the updated information about the potential of the Chinese market, grasped the current regulations as well as warnings about new regulations to be applied by China for the agricultural and aquatic products imported from Vietnam from January 01st, 2022; offered the solutions to remove the obstacles and promote sustainable export of agricultural and seafood products to the Chinese market in the coming time.
