National Online Conference On Reviewing Foreign Non-Governmental Work in 2024

On the afternoon of 12th April 2024, in Hanoi, the Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organization Affairs (COMINGO) organized the national online conference on reviewing foreign non-governmental work with 63 bridge points of the provinces/cities. The conference was chaired by Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of COMINGO and Mr. Tran Phu Cuong - Head of People’s Aid Coordinating Committee (under Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations). Ms. Vo Thi Nhu Hien - Vice Director of Binh Dinh Department of Foreign Affairs, members of the Provincial Committee for Foreign Non-Governmental Organization Affairs and leaders of relevant agencies attended at the bridge point of Binh Dinh province.
At the conference, Mr. Tran Phu Cuong - Head of People’s Aid Coordinating Committee stated the summary report on the foreign non-governmental work in 2023 and the directions for 2024. According to the 2023 report, 381 international non-governmental organizations (INGO) had been operating regularly in Vietnam (145 INGOs from Europe, 118 INGOs from Asia-Pacific, 118 INGOs from North America) with the total funding of 228,7 million USD, up 4,9 million USD compared to the year of 2022. The foreign non-governmental organizations’ activities focused on the main fields such as: Health, Natural Resources and Environment, Social Issues Resolution, so on…The provinces in the Northern mountainous region, the Red River Delta and the North Central region have the highest number of projects and aid values. In general, during their activities in Vietnam, INGOs have strictly complied with the provisions of law; coordinate closely with the partner agencies and local authorities in the project areas and show their willingness to help project beneficiaries. In 2024, the INGOs are committed to continue their funding projects according to Vietnam's priorities, contributing to the poverty reduction and social issues resolution, making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development achievements of the country.
The representatives of 4 ministries, agencies and 4 provinces (including Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa) shared information on INGO work in 2023 and gave recommendations to improve the efficiency of this work in 2024, especially in the areas of information exchange, connection, training, completion of national database on INGOs, so on...
Giving a directing statement at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of COMINGO highly appreciated the efforts of Central ministries, agencies, provinces in INGO work in 2023 as well as agreed with the opinions of Central ministries, agencies, provinces, and assign the Standing Agency of COMINGO to implement. Referring the directions and tasks in 2024, Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang requested the Central ministries, agencies, provinces to continue improving the management and mobilization of INGO aids; to speed up the administrative procedures related to the INGO projects implementation; to strengthen coordination, inspection, supervision and timely recommend the rewards for INGOs operating effectively; to improve the officials’ capacity in charge of INGO work at all levels in order to meet the requirements of INGO work in the new situation.
